How To: Using GBCFLSH for MacOSX

Here is a quick how to for people asking how to use the mac osx cart flasher. You can Download it here.

Compatibility List:
(if you dont see it here, it means I could not test it myself. Please let me know anything not listed so I can update the list)

Smartboy cart = YES
Non USB Bleep Bloop Cart = YES
USB Bleep Bloop Cart = YES
Gameboy Camera (read only) = YES
32m EMS Cart (read only)PARTIAL
64m USB EMS Cart (read only)PARTIAL
SB Programmer (with BB cart and SB cart) = YES
Bleep Bloop Programmer (with BB cart) = YES

Use the setting below for backing up your RAM (if it fails the first time, just try again, it seems to fail the first time, each time I use it)

When writing RAM or Flash remember to first, erase your data

After that, you should be able to write your RAM and FLASH without errors (and remember, RAM = Save File and FLASH = ROM file)

Hope this helps! Let me know.

NOTES: (updated list when new info is received)
- (bleep bloop programmer with bleep bloop non USB cart)
could read but not write anything on OS 10.4.11 But it works perfectly on OS 10.6

**UPDATE**
If you are having trouble reading the small text in the green box, you can hold apple+shift then scroll down (by holding 2 fingers for macbook owners) to enlarge it. (text in image below is REALLY big just for example)

  2. Just got my programmer from Kitsch and total success (after a little fussing with it)!!!!

    THANK YOU THRETRIS

I FINALLY pulled my .sav off my 32 EMS, which I have been worried about since i got the thing. I can't believe I finally have it backed up.

  5. Interesting- I tried getting this to work, but whenever I tried doing anything, the program gave me a generic ">Error opening COM port" error.
Are there any specific drivers I need to get? I tried searching Google, but no luck.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  7. Somewhat curious as to where you got version 1.2 of gbcflsh. All I can find is 1.1.

Is the 1.2 source code available somewhere? The Mac version you linked won't help me...

  8. GBCFLASH is pretty much just a straight rip of the PC software that comes with SmartBoy Carts.. Find that and you should be all good. Kitsch has a copy of it hosted somewhere (since the disc is TINY and some slot loaders wont take it)

  9. I left the previous anonymous comment. Perhaps I should have specified that I was interested in the 1.2 source code for use on Linux.

In the time since then, I finally managed to get 1.1 to compile, and have been using that with a SmartBoy without issue.

  10. i keep trying to pull the sav off of my new bleepbloop II cartridge, but to no avail, the program says success, but it turns out as just unreadable data. nor will it even let me erase any savs or load new ones. everything says "success" but nothing ever happens. :-(

  13. Special Note: for Arduino users or people who have installed the VPC FTDI Drivers. You have to unload them via terminal:

    sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

    and to reenable them:
    sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

  17. so.... i went to try again after over a year of not trying..... it then gave me the com port error....(probably b/c i had downloaded new ftdi drivers for something) i made the terminal commands above into easy to run applescripts. i ran the first to unload the "bad for gbcflsh driver". then i could do my thing in gbcflsh. i was finally able to grab my savs and upload new ones... then i reached a problem. anytime i do annything with "flash"... that being anything to do with ROMs on the cart, i get the "Timeout!" error. And now i don't even have a ROM on the cart, so it does me no good. Tried loading the "bad for gbcflsh driver" again (the second apple script i made) just to see if then the ROM would work.... loaded the driver fine... but that just makes gbcflsh go back to the "ERROR OPENING COM PORT"

  18. well.... i just ran it again today about 12hrs later... i think it was just pissed off that i was making it do so much work so late at night..... works fine now... weird... but i'm happy with that.

  21. Since this was not working for me... I have rewrote the source code to use D2XX (FTDI driver) rather than the libftdi VCP drivers.. Let me say it is working great for me!!! I will upload and inform everyone soon..
